Fantasy football leagues are easy to start.
Keeping one together for 10, 20, even 30 years? That's a different animal.
We've been doing ours since 1989. Thirty-seven years of drafts, terrible trades, arguments, marriages, kids, moves, careers, and grown men behaving irrationally over pretend football teams.
Somewhere along the way, we learned something.
The leagues that last aren't necessarily the ones with the best rules, the biggest prize pool, or the commissioner with a 14-page constitution.
They have three things in common.
YOUR LEAGUE ISN'T NORMAL. NEITHER IS OURS.
If your league has history, grudges, traditions, inside jokes and stories nobody else would understand, you're our kind of people.

#1 — They Have Rituals
You know what binds people together? Sometimes it's a marriage certificate. Sometimes it's that darn DNA. But often it's what we do, and maybe more importantly, how we behave when a group of people are together.
There is something deeply ridiculous about being human. We like to imagine ourselves as rational creatures, spreadsheet people, tax-paying people, people who understand compound interest.
Then, given half a chance, we'll chase a wheel of cheese down a hill steep enough to kill us.
We throw tomatoes at strangers. Jump off furniture at midnight. Bury pigs underground and invite everyone over to dig them back up.
Because ritual is how human beings take something temporary and insist that it matters.
Which brings us, naturally, to fantasy football. (Of course, doesnt everything)
Once a year, a collection of testosterone-charged men—some producing it the old-fashioned way, others receiving a little assistance from modern pharmaceutical science, gather to proclaim that their understanding of professional football is vastly superior to that of the feeble-minded dipshits they've voluntarily remained friends with for decades.
And that's precisely why the pomp needs some circumstance.
The trophy matters. The draft order ceremony matters. The ridiculous punishment matters. The commissioner pretending he's Roger Goodell matters. The same toast, song, bar, weekend and photograph taken every damn year, they matter.
Not because any of them are particularly important. Most, examined from a safe distance, are objectively absurd.
But stack enough absurdities on top of one another, repeat them long enough, and something strange happens.
They become tradition.
So bury the pig. Throw the tomato. Jump off the chair.
And for God's sake, make the draft ridiculous.
Someday you may discover that the ridiculous parts were the parts worth keeping.
#2 — They Have Stories
Fantasy leagues that last have a peculiar relationship with history.
They refuse to let anything die.
The time your hot, crazy girlfriend showed up to the draft wearing gloves, for reasons still unknown, and proceeded to eat chicken wings with the gloves on? (and your league mates thought it was weirdly sexy) Absolutely recorded. Especially when she later became the first casualty on The Apprentice.
That’s not an anecdote.
That’s league canon.
Get spectacularly drunk and decide the evening needs a full theatrical performance of Purple Rain?
That story is locked down for eternity.
You nod off at the poker table and somehow a photo is taken with two male buttocks positioned disturbingly close to your face?
Yeah.
We’ll talk about that one another time.
Because fantasy football history isn't really history. History has standards. Historians want sources, dates, corroborating evidence.
Your league has ten unreliable witnesses, three photographs and a group text.
And somehow, the stories only get better.
Nobody remembers who won Week 8 in 2011.
But everybody remembers Purple Rain. The gloves. The photograph.
That’s what happens when a league survives long enough.
Eventually, you're not just playing fantasy football.
You're creating mythology.
Every season adds another chapter. Another disaster. Another story that becomes slightly less accurate—and significantly funnier—with every telling.
And the guys sitting around that draft table may be the only people on Earth who understand why any of it matters.
Which is exactly why it does.
#3 — They Have Ridiculous Pride
At some point, your stupid fake football team stops being a joke and becomes part of who you are.
And frankly, it should.
You know how a peacock spreads its feathers because nature has convinced it that everyone desperately needs to see what he’s working with?
That’s us.
The We Live For This crowd cannot wait to explain how they knew that high-upside RB3 would still be sitting there in Round 8.
They knew.
They also knew their tight end was about to command significantly more targets out of 11, 12, or—God help you—13 personnel.
And they’d be happy to explain why you don’t know shit about aDOT, target share, or percentage of goal-line carries in away games played in the Mountain Time Zone.
Good.
Be prideful.
Strut around a little.
Beat your chest.
Wipe the blood of the waiver wire you just savaged from your face and tell the room exactly how brilliant you are.
Because ridiculous pride is the gasoline of a great league.
It’s why Michigan hates Ohio State. Why the Celtics hate the Lakers. Why Coke hates Pepsi.
Nobody builds a rivalry around indifference.
You need people who care way too much about something that objectively matters almost not at all.
That’s the whole point.
Your team. Your colors. Your logo. Your championships. Your humiliating defeats. That one trade you still insist was “actually good process.”
Own all of it.
Because somewhere along the way, this ridiculous fake football team became your ridiculous fake football team.
So spread the feathers.
The rest of us need to see what you’re working with.
And That's Why We Built Fantasy Thread
Not because the world desperately needed another T-shirt.
Because after 37 years in the same league, we understand what happens when rituals become traditions, stories become mythology, and a ridiculous fake football team becomes part of your identity.
Fantasy Thread is for leagues that care too much.
Your team. Your league. Your history.
So if you're going to peacock...
Peacock properly.
Your league isn't normal. Neither is ours.
If your league has history, grudges, traditions, inside jokes and stories nobody outside the league would understand, you're our kind of people.
