Who We Are
Pull Up a Chair
My fantasy football league has been doing this for a very long time.
Now, I don't know if there's an official record book for the longest continuously running fantasy leagues with the same core group of members, but I can tell you this:
We've been together since 1989.
What started as a way to have a little fun with football has become one of the most meaningful parts of my life.
Back then, our draft was a couple of hours on a picnic table outside a local bar.
Today, Draft Weekend is a four day event.
Every year.
Labor Day weekend.
No exceptions.
It's the highlight of the year.
You know that feeling you used to get on Christmas morning as a kid? That mix of excitement, anticipation, and the inability to sit still?
That's how we feel when Draft Weekend rolls around.
Over the years, the weekend has evolved.
The location changes.
The traditions grow.
The stories get better.
The jokes get funnier.
The memories get richer.
About ten years ago, we started exchanging fantasy football gifts. At first it was just a funny side activity. A gag gift here. A roast-worthy present there.
Now it's one of the cornerstones of the weekend.
Some gifts are thoughtful.
Some are ridiculous.
Some are specifically designed to make a grown man question his life choices in front of his closest friends.
All of them tell a story.
And that's really what Fantasy Thread is all about.
The Thread.
The name means three things to us.
First, it's the thread of communication.
The stories.
The group chats.
The blog posts.
The league debates.
The fantasy smack talk that somehow never gets old.
Second, it's the thread that keeps people connected.
Life moves fast.
People get married.
People get divorced.
Kids show up.
Careers happen.
People move.
Parents get older.
Life pulls people in different directions.
But somehow, every year, the thread remains.
The guys show up.
The wives and girlfriends join in.
The stories continue.
The friendships deepen.
And third, it's the literal thread.
The shirts.
The hats.
The hoodies.
The draft gear.
The trophies.
The things we wear with pride on Draft Weekend, game day, and sometimes around the neighborhood just to let people know where we stand.
Fantasy football has given me more than a hobby.
It has given me stories.
Shared experiences.
Inside jokes that have lasted decades.
Friendships that have survived marriages, moves, career changes, and the normal wear and tear of life.
My life is better because of fantasy football.
Not because of the trophies.
Not because of the championships.
Because of the people.
This site exists to celebrate all of it.
The leagues.
The traditions.
The friendships.
The memories.
The stories, the jokes and roasts
The Thread.
Welcome.
